NEW MULTI-LEVEL FEE STRUCTURE
As Canoe Island French Camp approaches its 40th anniversary, we are embarking on a number of camp infrastructure projects intended to insure that our facility will continue to support our excellent camp programs in the future. As part of this effort we are putting in place a voluntary multi-level fee structure than provides families an opportunity to pay more than the base level camp tuition that has traditionally been requested. Your choice of what fee level you decide to pay will be treated confidentially. We thank you, in advance, for your your registration at whatever tuition level you are comfortable. We do have a financial aid program for academically motivated children who need financial assistance to attend camp.
Level I is our base tuition level, that requires outside funding efforts tocover the direct and indirect costs of operating, maintaining, and upgrading the camp.
Level II is a higher tuition level that covers about 90% of the true costs of operating, maintaining and upgrading the camp including our low camper to staff ratio and the maintenance and upkeep of our buildings, boats, equipment and island infrastructure.
Level III is our highest tuition level that covers all of the true costs of operating camp.

Memorial Day Weekend Family Camp includes focus on natural history of the San Juan Islands. Relax on Canoe Island with your family while exploring the natural history of the San Juan Islands and experiencing French culture. Marine biology, natural science, sailing, kayaking, swimming, tennis, traditional French games and campfires will fill the weekend. This is a great way for potential campers and parents to find out about activities and the camp facilities.
Open House provides a chance for families and friends to tour the island and meet the staff. Campers attending Session 1 may stay over with full supervision and special activities until other campers arrive on Sunday. A light buffet will be served and the pool and tennis court will be open. Information will be sent upon registration, or, if you just want to visit, contact us by email or phone.
Form your own colony, make fire with flint and steel, and venture to neighboring islands as you explore the traditions and travels of the French Voyageurs and Native Americans. Share gifts in a potlatch, shoot bows and arrows, do traditional arts and crafts, and cook outdoors. Take an off-island trip by kayak, canoe, sailboat, or bike. Celebrate North American holidays: march in the Friday Harbor July 4th Parade and celebrate Canada Day July 1.
Storm the barricades (with water balloons), sing La Marseillaise, and become Louis XVI or Marie Antoinette. Or be a peasant and find out how the American Revolution helped spur their uprising and search for the royalty as they hide on the island. Celebrate Bastille Day, July 14. Fencing, theater, sports, and outdoor sports are all a part of this session.
Polynesia, Africa, the Caribbean, North America, and Asia: explore other countries where French is spoken. Participate in Olympics in your favorite sport, present your region in a World’s Fair of native foods, crafts, clothing, sports. Listen to Cajun music, try Vietnamese food, and paint your face like those in Vanuato. Canoe across the channel to Shaw Island for an afternoon of beach play.
